Paced by Ryan Jermier’s round of 78, the Norwalk boys golf team placed fourth out of nine teams at Monday’s Jesse Peck Jaguar Invitational. The season-opening tournament was hosted by Ankeny Centennial at the Briarwood Country Club, played in cool and wet conditions.
Southeast Polk won the meet with a team score of 303, followed by Centennial with a 309, Indianola (313), Norwalk (321) and Urbandale rounding out the top five with a 324.
Jermier’s 78 placed him 11th out of 55 golfers in the field and included a 34 on the front nine. Norwalk’s Grady Sigrist and Cael Sherwood finished 15th and 16th, respectively, with scores of 80 and 81. Sherwood needed just 34 strokes on the back nine. Additional scores for the Warriors included Braylon Stockwell (82), Braden Nicholson (84) and Kasey Ludlow (86).
Southeast Polk’s Zach Julander was the meet medalist with a 73, holding off three other players by one stroke.
The Norwalk golfers will compete in a JV tournament at Ankeny’s Otter Creek Golf Course today at 9:00 a.m. The next varsity meet is the Johnston Dragons Invitational on Wednesday, August 24, at Jester Park Golf Course. Tee time is 9:00 a.m.
