The drought conditions are causing concerns for both crop and livestock producers. To address the concerns, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be hosting two free drought meetings.
Tuesday, August 23 will be a virtual meeting at noon. You can view it by going to https://www.aep.iastate.edu/drought/view.html.
On Wednesday, August 24 at 1 p.m. will be a meeting at the Marion County Extension and Outreach at 210 North Iowa Street in Knoxville.
Producers may bring five representative corn stalk samples for a quick nitrate assessment conducted on-site prior to the meeting or after the meeting.
Meeting topics include drought impacts on crops and forages, how to manage livestock and drought-stressed forages.
Rebecca Vittetoe, an extension field agronomist who covers Marion County told KNIA/KRLS News, “Next week on August 24 we will be doing a drought meeting responding to the drought conditions we are continuing to experience in this part of the state. We’ve been getting questions whether it’s crop farmers or livestock producers on the impact the drought is going to have.”
The meeting is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is required.
