Operation “Save Lives” continues in Marion County. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholt tells KNIA/KRLS News that Marion County was third in traffic deaths in Iowa in 2021, and his office and other agencies are increasing their efforts at traffic enforcement in an attempt to bring those numbers down.

Officers are focusing on enforcing all traffic laws, including speeding, texting while driving, and seat belt use. Sandholdt adds that he hopes drivers will heed this warning and slow down, and will follow all traffic laws.

Sandholdt said, “It seems like people are traveling a lot faster than they normally do. We’ve had even, on our projects we have done, the number of people going 10-15-20 mph over the speed limit has definitely increased over the years. Our goal is to reduce those speeds. There are speed limits for a reason.”

Sandholdt says the goal is to educate the public.
