The Twin Cedars Football Squad was supposed to get its season started last night, however heavy rain and thunderstorms prevented the Sabers and Murray from kicking off the season in Week Zero, so they will try tonight. The Sabers look to have a renewed focus on the gridiron after going 1-8 last season with their only win a forfeit by Woodward Academy. Coach Cam Parker has 24 on the roster right now and 21 should suit up for tonight’s contest. Parker adds having that many guys at practice makes it for eight-on-eight scrimmages with the offense and defense.

Parker: “We’ve been on the other side of things the last few years. The last few years I’ve had to play guard or center just to have a full scout team and that made it hard to see what everyone was doing, but this year we can have a full team and they guys can go at it in practice and we have some reserves to bring in as well.”

Parker says one reason why the numbers are up this season is an influx of younger players from the eighth grade and freshman classes the las two seasons who are now sophomores and have already had one year of varsity action. Kick off tonight is scheduled for five-30 at Saber Stadium.
