Norwalk’s score of 319 was good enough for eighth place out of 12 teams at Wednesday’s Johnston Dragon Boys Golf Invitational at Jester Park.

Johnston, one of four teams to break 300 on the day, won the tournament with a 290, followed by Cedar Rapids Xavier 293, Waukee 294 and Waukee Northwest 297. Waukee’s Tanner Dinnebier and Xavier’s Ryan Schmit both shot 4-under-par rounds of 68 to pace the field and finish as medalist and runner-up, respectively.

Norwalk was led by rounds of 77 from Braden Nicholson and Ryan Jermier, who both posted consistent scores throughout the meet. The Warriors also counted Grady Sigrist’s 82 and Cael Sherwood’s 83. Kasey Ludlow (84) and Braylon Stockwell (85) rounded out the scorecard.

Thirty-nine out of 72 players in the tournament shot 80 or better over 18 holes.

Norwalk will play its only varsity dual of the fall season today, squaring off against Ankeny at Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines at 2:00 p.m.

The Warrior cross country teams will also be in action today, opening their season with the Ankeny Centennial Invite at DMACC, starting at 5:00 p.m. The Norwalk boys begin the year ranked third in Class 4A by the Iowa Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.

The Warrior volleyball team, which swept Class 4A fifth-ranked Bondurant-Farrar on Tuesday, will face Southeast Polk, Des Moines Lincoln and Indianola at today’s Southeast Polk Quad. Play begins at 5:00 p.m.
