The Pleasantville Volleyball team picked up their first win of the 2022 season Thursday night, as they split a pair of matches at their home triangular with Interstate-35 and Chariton.
Kicking off the triangular, Pleasantville made quick work of I-35, sweeping the Roadrunners in three sets. The Trojans took the first set with ease, winning 25-13. After briefly breaking a sweat in a 26-24 second set win, Pleasantville dominated I-35 in the third set to win 25-11 and earn the sweep.
After catching their breath before the second and final match of the night, Pleasantville fell just shy of defeating Chariton. The Chargers won the opening set 25-14, but the Trojans responded to win the second set 25-17. In the winner take all third set, Chariton edged out Pleasantville 15-11. Trojans Head Coach Joel Allman said that his squad showed flashes of their talent but added that they will need to continue to work on their focus to be more consistent throughout the season.
Pleasantville’s record now stands at 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the West Central Conference. The Trojans will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to ACGC for a conference match.
The 2022 football season gets underway tonight for the Pleasantville Trojans as they head to Lynnville-Sully.
Last season, Pleasantville defeated the Hawks 13-7, marking the third straight season in which the Trojans knocked off Lynnville-Sully. The three consecutive wins for Pleasantville tied the series record between the two schools in the Varsity Bound Era. While the Trojans did pick up the early season win against the Hawks last season, Head Coach Mack Jorth knows that his team can’t just show up and expect to win tonight.
“They didn’t lose until like the second round of the playoffs or something like that after we played them in first week (last season). So, they went on a tremendous run, really have a lot of very good athletes that are all coming back for their third, even fourth year of experience. So, they are going to be loaded and very, very tough, so that’ll be a really good challenge for us right out of the gates.”
