A power outage in parts of western Knoxville led to some late night, early morning fire calls around town. One of those calls was to Knoxville High School.

An alarm at the Knoxville School District’s Performing Arts Center (KPAC) alerted authorities to an electrical fire in the building’s solar panel system. Knoxville Fire Chief Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News there was minor smoke damage and damage to the electrical system for the panels. The fire call came in around 2 a.m. Monday morning.

Knoxville School Superintendent Cassi Pearson discusses the impact of the fire, “The good news is it will not have any effect on school activities at all. It really didn’t have any impact on our building per se. There was some type of electrical, I don’t know if I would call it a fire, but it was hot enough to melt the casing around some electrical wires between the solar panel transformer and the disconnect box. We know it got really hot, but it didn’t have any impact on our building. There was no damage inside our buildings.”
