indianola-8

The Indianola football team jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter which was enough to earn the victory over the Glenwood Rams 31-17 Friday as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians got a 12-yard pass from Bennett Brueck to Charlie Wilmott and a 77-yard touchdown run from Matthew Edgington in addition to a field goal from Aiden Keller to take a 17-0 lead in the first half, and held Glenwood to barely any offense throughout the half only giving up one big play for a 17-7 lead at halftime.

The Rams went on a long drive that ended in a field goal to cut the lead to 17-0, but Brueck scored on a 59-yard run then connected with Will Shivers on a 43-yard pass to build a 31-10 advantage, and after both teams turned the ball over several times in the 4th, the Indians ran out the clock.

Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports he was proud of the way his guys responded after getting out to the early lead and letting Glenwood back in it.

“That’s probably what I’m most proud of. You could hear the guys on the sideline, they were rallying the troops. We had kind of lost it late in the 2nd quarter, but then they realized that we have to go. You could sense the ownership in this football team, and I thought the seniors stepped up and made a lot of great plays. Did enough to win, but we are going to continue to get better.”

Edgington rushed for 175 yards and a score, Brueck threw for two scores, and Wilmott had two interceptions on defense in addition to the receiving score. Indianola improves to 2-0 on the season, and will host Pella on Friday.
