The Indianola High School Spring Musical has been selected, with The Addams Family coming to the auditorium in April. Students were told by director Myles Finn in a series of musicals being taken off the whiteboard, eventually leading to a video which went viral on TikTok.
The video, which as of Friday afternoon was at 33 million views, was inspired by another musical teacher and a way to keep the students in suspense.
“So I’d actually seen another musical director that did something similar where they were pulling off a musical that they were not doing for the spring. I had a list of about 12 musicals, and we would pull off about two a day. Then we got to the final day and there were three left, and I pulled off one and they were thinking it had to be one of those two, and then I pulled both of them off and the suspense just killed them. So I went through this elaborate process of having a conversation with myself that I pre-recorded and finding a fun, different way of telling them what the musical was.”
