Central College football linebacker Reid Pakkebier and record-setting women’s golfer Delaney Underwood were named the American Rivers Conference Athletes of the Week. Meanwhile, wide receiver Ryan Neu was named the conference’s football offensive player of the week.
Both Pakkebier and Neu were also tabbed for the D3football.com Team of the Week as well. It was a first-time honor for both.
Pakkebier was the league’s defensive player of the week as well as the male athlete of the week following his first career start Saturday in Central’s 44-13 victory over St. Olaf College (Minn.). He was Central’s top tackler with a career-high 17 stops, including seven solos with a sack and 3.0 tackles for loss for 10 yards. He also had an interception, returning it 15 yards.
Underwood, the female athlete of the week, shattered the school 18-hole record with a scorching 3-under-par 69 at the Fox Ridge Golf Course Sunday at the Norse-Kohawk Invitational. That topped her previous career best by five shots. She took medalist honors in the 15-team field with 76-69—145, which also tied the school mark of 73-72—145 set by Sarah Paulson in 2009. Central finished second in the tourney overall at 309-295—604 as Sunday’s round set a new school team mark.
Neu, in his second career start, had seven catches for a career-high 215 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yarder that put Central on top in the first quarter.
Central (1-0), ranked No. 13 in the D3football.com Top 25, is home again Saturday for a non-conference game with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 1 p.m.
The Dutch women’s golf team travels to Waverly for the Wartburg Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
