pleasantville-3

The Pleasantville football team got off to a great start at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Friday night en route to an easy 35-7 victory on the road.

The Trojans came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, as Parker Sheets connected with Trent Jolly for a 43-yard touchdown just under two minutes into the game. From there the Rockets would stifle a few Pleasantville scoring opportunities, before the Trojans’ Jury Ellis and Ross Stephens teamed up for a safety to extend the lead to 9-0. On the ensuing possession, Parker Sheets found Dayson Leerhoff for a 54-yard touchdown to make it 15-0. Dillon Ammons then punched in an 11-yard touchdown run to give Pleasantville a 21-0 lead with just under four minutes left in the first half, and that score would hold into halftime.

Pleasantville continued to roll in the second half, as Ammons and Caleb Cook would each score a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to push the lead to 35-0. E-B-F would end the shut-out late in the four quarter with their first touchdown of the season, but the Trojans ran out the clock from there to win the game 35-7. The Rockets threw some different looks at Pleasantville throughout the night, and head coach Mack Jorth said he was happy with how his players responded to that challenge.

“Just having veteran presence like that, good athletes like that, playmakers like that step up and all be able to contribute and make plays is huge. So, they just all keep getting better and that’s what I’m really excited about, to just to continue to see a lot of different guys be able to contribute. They had to adjust a little bit, like I said, they’re doing something a little different than we were preparing for and we’re expecting from them. So, those guys really did a nice job adjusting and just taking what the defense gives us and making plays regardless of what they saw out there, so I was really proud of all of them, and it’s neat to see them all perform in that way.”

Pleasantville closes out non-district play with a 2-1 record and begin Class 1A District 6 play this upcoming Friday when they host Sigourney-Keota.
