State Auditor Rob Sand held a town hall in Indianola, answering questions from a range of local voters as part of his statewide tour. Sand talked about government accountability, ranked choice voting, voter and elected officials participating in the system and more. Sand tells KNIA News one of the subjects he is most passionate about is the spread of the Public Efficiency and Innovation (PIE) Program, which aims to assist government entities spend taxpayer funds as efficiently as possible.
“I love this program, it makes me happy. It’s about saving money and making the use of taxpayer money more efficient so at the end of the day you either get more services or pay less in taxes. That’s the heart of the program, and it’s been so successful that the state of Mississippi has already replicated it, so we’ve made Iowa a leader in government efficiency.”
Sand has served as State Auditor since 2019, and is running for re-election in November.
