The Pella Christian cross country squads and volleyball team are both in action today. Eagles cross country makes the short drive down Highway 163 to run in the Oskaloosa Invitational, while the volleyball squad makes the hour-long journey to compete against Dallas Center-Grimes.
The #14 ranked Pella Christian boys cross country team enters the Oskaloosa Invite just five days removed from a seventh-place finish at the Gilbert Meet, while the girls squad was eighth. Class 2A’s #14 individual boys runner Kaden Van WynGarden finished on the podium last Thursday with a fifth-place finish, in which broke his previous PR by 35 seconds and was just 14 seconds shy of breaking the school record. The Pella Christian girls are hoping to see even more improvements tonight, as they posted a season best team average time of 23:28 last Thursday.
The Eagles volleyball team comes into tonight’s Little Hawkeye Conference match at Dallas Center-Grimes fresh off a 2-0 week, after beating Grinnell and Woodward-Granger. Historically, the Mustangs have gotten the better of Pella Christian, as they have won 10 of the 12 meetings in the Varsity Bound era. While the overall history favors DCG, the Eagles have the recent advantage having won last season’s match 3-2.
The Eagles cross country teams kicks off tonight’s festivities at the Oskaloosa Invitational at 4:45 p.m., before the Pella Christian volleyball ends the night with their road match at 7:15 p.m.
