Led by Grady Sigrist’s seventh-place round of 76 and Braden Nicholson’s 77, the Norwalk boys golf team finished seventh out of 17 teams in Monday’s Turk Bowman Invite at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
Johnston won the team title with an even 300, leading a pack of nine teams within 21 shots of each other. Norwalk’s score of 317 was good for seventh place. In addition to the low scores of Sigrist and Nicholson, the Warriors also counted Ryan Jermier’s round of 80 and Cael Sherwood’s 84. Braylon Stockwell was next in line with an 85.
Johnston’s Ben Christy earned medalist honors with a 68, edging Ankeny’s Drew Hensen by one stroke.

Three Norwalk teams will be in action today as the boys and girls cross country teams compete at West Des Moines Valley and the volleyball team plays at Newton. In addition, Norwalk’s girls swimmers will compete for Des Moines Lincoln in a 5:30 p.m. dual meet at Mason City.
The 12-team Valley Cross Country Invite will be run at the Valley Southwoods Course with varsity races beginning at 5:45.
The Warrior volleyball team will look to stay unbeaten in Little Hawkeye Conference play, taking an 8-3 overall record and 2-0 league mark into their 7:15 road match against the Cardinals, who are 3-7 and 0-2, respectively.
