Lithium ion batteries are becoming more of a problem as life evolves. These batteries are in everyday devices such as smart phones, laptops, scooters, toys and electric cars.
Cal Wyman, Knoxville fire chief said, “Knoxville was added to a list of departments that have responded to lithium ion batteries. We haven’t seen a lot of it in the Midwest, but we see it occasionally. It’s really a big thing out on the East and West coast. The state of New York has seen a 233 percent increase in fires due to lithium ion batteries.”
Knoxville recently fought a fire that was caused by a lithium ion battery in a hover board.
