The Norwalk volleyball team stayed unbeaten in Little Hawkeye Conference play Tuesday night while the Warrior cross country teams both placed in the top three at West Des Moines Valley.
Junior outside hitter Noelle Sutcliffe enjoyed a huge game at the net as the Warrior volleyball team notched a road sweep at Newton by scores of 25-12, 25-12, 25-15, improving to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the Little Hawkeye. The Cardinals dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Unofficially, Sutcliffe notched a .500 kill efficiency in the win, slamming 12 kills on 24 attacks without an error. Senior middle Sami Aagard added seven kills and setter Liz Iverson tallied 23 assists. Ava Johnson served 14-for-16 with two aces and Grace Dehmer was 18-for-18 with one ace while posting a team-high 12 digs.
The Warriors will return to action at Saturday’s Waukee Invitational, starting the tournament with an 8:30 a.m. match against Class 5A second-ranked Ankeny.
The Norwalk girls cross country team placed third out of six teams in Tuesday’s Tom Karpan Invite at West Des Moines Valley with a score of 103. The Warrior boys rested most of their varsity squad and still placed second with a 73.
Squad leaders for the Warrior girls were Maya Butler in 17th place with a time of 22:47, Pearl Brown 19th, Brooke Seeley 20th and Audrey Warren 31st.
The Warrior boys placed five runners in the top 20, led by Ben Hanson’s ninth-place time of 17:51. Grant Wallace finished 12th, followed by Daniel Webster 16th, Corbin Oswald 17th and AJ Mosqueda 19th.
Team champions on the day were the Ankeny Centennial girls and the Valley boys.
