The Indianola School Board received a presentation on the Equine Therapy Program at their meeting Tuesday. Superintendent Ted Ihns tells KNIA News the program was brought forth in a pilot program trial as part of the board’s priority of stressing the physical and mental well-being of students.

“I think the biggest thing is social and emotional behavioral health is a concern for many districts, and Indianola is no different. There are ways we can support our students, whether it be through therapy or the equine therapy program. I think it’s an option that if we can help our students with social skills and managing their bodies it’s something we should do, and an important piece of what we can do. Our board is very involved in making sure we meet the needs of our students in those areas.”

Ihns also said the program was a big success, which the presentation showed and is something he thinks the board will recommend continuing on for this school year.
