Getting its first American Rivers Conference win of the season, the Central College women’s tennis team beat Simpson College 9-0 Friday afternoon.
Central (2-2, 1-0 conference) blanked the Storm (1-4, 1-3 conference) as a young team continues to find its groove.
Jennifer Larson was victorious 7-6, 6-2 in her No. 1 singles match, her first win of the season and first as a No. 1 player. Alex Griggs and Jenna Hernandez powered to an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Griggs also won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles and Hernandez won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Larson and Madi Whalen won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Taylor Wyeth and Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles. Brianna Lindstrom won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and Alli Kreider won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Ashlyn Brant won by walkover at No. 6 singles.
Central hosts Buena Vista University at 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon in its next match.
Natalie Gaszynski had double-digit kills for the third time this season in the Central College volleyball team’s 25-21, 25-20, 25-14 loss against Benedictine University (Ill.) Friday night.
Gaszynski had a team-high 10 kills on 18 attempts for the Dutch (3-4). Nobody else had more than four for Central. Setters Adisyn Illg and Amanda Smith had 10 and nine assists, respectively. Illg also had two service aces. Becca Vala led the team with 13 digs as the libero. Gwen Kahlke and Smith each had eight digs.
The Dutch will remain near Chicago for a pair of matches on Saturday, traveling to Illinois Institute of Technology for a triangular with Lake Forest College (Ill.) starting at 1 p.m.
