Pella Christian was firing on all cylinders as they raced to a big lead early in a 45-0 rout of Van Buren, in the Class 1A District 6 opener heard live on the KRLS2 stream Friday.

The Eagles scored four touchdowns and tallied four first downs on their first 12 plays from scrimmage, and added a punt return touchdown to get to 35-0 and continuous clock in the first quarter.

Bennie Schirz rushed for 107 yards and two scores, and was the man behind the 66-yard return house call, and Isaac Kacmarynski added two rushing scores and a passing TD to contribute to the effort. The Eagles defense held Van Buren to just 38 yards during the entire game.

Jack Fancher tied for Eagles history — matching a 47 yard field goal hit by Trey Hugen that made the game 45-0 in the second half.

Pella Christian improves to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in district play, and play a defacto district title game at Sigourney-Keota next week.
