Coming off a commanding 42-0 win on Homecoming last week, the PCM football team will now look to play spoiler on the road tonight in Albia’s Senior Night game.

The Mustangs dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in last week’s meeting with Iowa Falls-Alden to even their overall record at 2-2, and start district play 1-0. Offensively, PCM ran the ball 40 times for 275 yards and five touchdowns, while the defense allowed just 106 total yards of offense. After gaining all those yards in the running game, the Mustangs rank sixth in Class 2A in rushing yards with 962.

Albia also enters the game 2-2 overall but sits 0-1 in district action after falling on the road at Roland-Story 21-0 last week. The Blue Demons also feature a physical run game, that includes one of the top running backs in Class 2A. Albia’s Gage Oddo has the most rushing attempts in Class 2A with 109, which is 16 more than any other ball carrier, and ranks fifth in rushing yards with 595.

The two teams met in PCM’s homecoming game a year ago, and the Mustangs dominated the Blue Demons to the tune of 367 rushing yards and seven touchdowns en route to a 50-6 victory. While he would like to see his team control this year’s game in similar fashion, PCM head coach Greg Bonnett expects it to be a hard-fought game that will be decided by physicality.

“You’re always going to get their best effort. They’re well coached. They’re not out there blowing coverages. If you beat them, it’s because you physically had to beat them. It’s not because you outsmarted their scheme or anything like that. So, I look forward to just a great game. I love playing in Albia. I just there’s something about that, that field that is just everybody’s kind of on top of each other and I think it’s a great atmosphere.”

Tyler Crabb and Jeff Lindsay will have all the action of PCM football at Albia tonight on the KRLS3 and the free KNIA/KRLS app, beginning with pregame coverage at Albia at 6:30 p.m. Kickoff from Albia Junior High and High School is set to follow pregame coverage at 7:30.
