The #8 Indianola football team dominated from start to finish to begin district play on the road at Perry Friday evening, winning 49-0 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indians didn’t allow a Perry first down until late in the first half and kept them on their own side of midfield for nearly the entire game, as they scored four first half touchdowns. Quarterback Bennett Brueck threw three, to Charlie Wilmott, Drew Kingery, and Will Shivers, while tailback Matthew Edgington rushed for another as the Indians took a 28-0 halftime lead. Edgington scored one more to get to running clock to begin the second half, as Indianola began to rotate in players, getting more scores from Jake Pontier and Ethan McDonald.
Head coach Eric Kluver said it was a good thing getting the full roster onto the field, and he knows they have their work cut out for them.
“They work hard, just like all the starters. We said to the whole team, let’s take care of business, let’s play a clean game, a mistake free game, and limit our turnovers. For the most part we did that, and we are excited to be 4-1 and heading into a huge week for our football team.”
The Indians improve to 4-1 on the season, and will host rival Norwalk for homecoming next Friday.
