After spending all of September in Pella, the Central College football team is on the road today for the first time this season to take on Nebraska Wesleyan.
The Dutch are 2-1 overall and coming off a bye week after their first regular season loss in nearly two years, 38-35 to Loras two weeks ago. The Prairie Wolves are also coming off a loss to Loras, 49-31 last week in Dubuque, and sit at 1-3 on the season.
Both teams feature an up-tempo offense and it will be a fast paced and potentially high scoring affair today. The Dutch are 12th in the country with over 333 passing yards per game and Nebraska Wesleyan ranks eighth at 343 yards per game through the air. Both teams run more than 70 plays on average, and Central coach Jeff McMartin says that his defense needs to be prepared for a non-stop two minute drill.
“Their quarterback is very mobile. He’s able to avoid pressure, avoid sacks and there are times where there are guys hanging all over him and he’s still throwing the ball. So he’s a tough guy to bring down and a tough guy to stop. For us, as much as we can create some indecision, cloud up the picture and pressure him and speed up the clock, those will be good things for us.”
Central should have plenty of opportunities to score points themselves today, as Nebraska Wesleyan is allowing an average of 558 yards and 46 points per game.
Kickoff is at 1:00 at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. Trevor Castle and Don DeWaard will call the action on 92.1 KRLS and the free KNIA/KRLS app, beginning with pregame at 12:35.
