Don and Margaret Long gave over $1.4 million to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics (KHC) Foundation to fund the construction of a new infusion center. The Don and Margaret Long Infusion Center will be located on the southeast side of the hospital.
Don explains why he and Margaret got behind the infusion center, “When Kevin explained all the thoughts and the needs for the hospital and what the future consisted of we started looking at parts of that project in smaller pieces. So, when we heard of an infusion center it was something we could relate to. We have never used those facilities, but we know a lot of people who have. To me it’s something that can serve a lot of people that really need that kind of service that’s what drove us to thinking about getting involved.”
CEO of the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics, Kevin Kincaid, gives his thoughts on the contribution by the Long’s, “Talking about the needs of the hospital and kind of what they were thinking of as it related to major financial support of our mission. When I got clearer about our needs moving forward, one that jumped out at all of us was a space specifically designed and built for our cancer patients. Both by amount of particular space and cost to build and the impact it will have on all of our friends and community members. It was a great match for them, so that’s where we really kind of started the conversation around the table, to create a new cancer center in Knoxville, Iowa.”
The Long’s have lived in Knoxville for 53 years and raised their family here.
The addition is part of a $21 million project that will add a new surgical suite, expand clinic space for visiting specialists, and renovate the Emergency Depart
