The Simpson Storm football team went 1-4 in the red zone in the second half coming away with only six points, and racked up over 500 yards of offense but couldn’t find the endzone in a 33-23 loss to Luther Saturday as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm struck first on a J Jensen III pass to Hunter Dahlgren in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead, but that was followed up by a Luther score to tie it up. The Storm scored again on a Jensen pass to Reed Worth, only to again see the Norse score a touchdown but miss the extra point to make it 14-13. Simpson kicked a field goal to extend the lead, but the Norse scored another touchdown to take a 19-17 lead into the halftime break.

The second half was full of missed opportunities for the Storm, as they moved the ball effortlessly up and down the field only to stall out as they neared the goal line. A near certain touchdown ended with a trip on the five yard line with no defender around, and the drive ended with a missed field goal, another missed field goal, a sack-fumble given up for a touchdown, and a fumble at the two yard line all plagued the Storm, as they fought to get back into the game but couldn’t keep the Luther offense off the field.

Head coach Matt Jeter said the game was just full of mistakes the Storm made, and despite putting themselves in positions to succeed for nearly the entire game, they couldn’t get out of their own way.

The Storm are now 0-4 on the season, and will next travel to Dubuque on Saturday.
