The Pella Christian cross country teams wrapped up their fantastic regular seasons Tuesday night at the Centerville Cross Country Invitational at Honey Creek Resort State Park in Moravia.
The #10 ranked Pella Christian boys brought home their third meet title of the season, while also setting a new school record for the best 5k team average time. The Eagles had a team average time of 17:18 and had their top five runners finish in 18 minutes or less for the first time. #17 ranked individual boys runner Kaden Van Wyngarden not only brought home his fourth first-place finish of the season but etched his name into the Pella Christian record books. Kaden completed the course in a time of 16:10, which broke Skyler Giddings old school record of 16:14 set back in 2010. Tysen DeVries was also a top five finisher in the meet coming in fourth (17:08), while Ben Gosselink just missed the top five in sixth (17:20).
The Eagles girls cross country team celebrated being ranked #17 in Class 2A for the first time this fall by finishing in second place behind #4 ranked Albia. After being just a minute off the pace of #6 ranked Tipton at Williamsburg last week, the Pella Christian girls’ average time was just 40 seconds behind the #4 Blue Demons. Bailey Vos led the Eagles for the third straight meet, coming in eighth place with a time of 20:46. Jaclyn Holmes also placed inside the top 10 just eight seconds behind Bailey in ninth (20:54), while Joslyn Terpstra was just outside the top 10 in 11th (21:01).
