Central College is welcoming alumni, family and friends back to campus for Homecoming 2022 from today through Saturday.
The Dutch football team will face Wartburg College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in its Homecoming matchup at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. Admission to the game is free.
Central’s Homecoming weekend will feature traditions and new events, including The Lemming Race at 6 p.m. Friday, where students dress in costumes, race to the campus pond, jump in and sing the fight song on the island in an annual ritual.
Attendees will also have the chance to participate in many other events on Friday, including:
– The Dutch Masters Golf Tournament, registration begins at 8 a.m., Pella Golf & Country Club.
– Happy Hour, 4:30-6 p.m., Fred’s Patio outside Maytag Student Center.
– Athletics Hall of Honor Banquet, 6:30 p.m., Harry and Bernice Vermeer Banquet Hall, Graham Conference Center.
– All Alumni gathering, 7 p.m., The Hideaway at Smash Park.
Saturday will begin with a new faculty-led program. Professor Emeritus Jann Freed, a 1977 Central graduate, will present “Course Syllabus for Living a New Life Worth Remembering” at 10 a.m., Room 104, Helen Jean Hislop Center. Freed will share from her forthcoming book what she has learned about legacy based on interviews, research and life experience. All are welcome.
Central sports fans will have multiple competitions to enjoy on Saturday, in addition to the football game:
– Central women’s tennis will face Wartburg, 9:30 a.m., Kuyper Athletics Complex tennis courts.
– Central men’s soccer team will take on Wartburg, noon, Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer fields.
– Women’s soccer will take the field against Coe College, 2:30 p.m., Kuyper Athletics Complex soccer fields.
– Women’s volleyball team will play Coe, 5 p.m., P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium
The new “Red Zone” will be located on the east side of the Kuyper Athletics Complex parking lot, starting at 10 a.m. with kids and family activities. Tailgate in the Red Zone begins at 11 a.m. and the postgame party will begin shortly after the game.
