Dutch Tie Knights in Foggy, Wet Men’s Soccer Match

The Central College men’s soccer team earned its first point of the American Rivers Conference season with a 0-0 draw at Wartburg College Wednesday night.

In the 28th meeting between the Dutch (1-7-2, 0-1-1 American Rivers Conference) and the Knights (5-1-5, 1-0-2 conference), it’s the first match to end in a 0-0 tie. It’s Central’s third positive result in Waverly since 2007. After raining off and on all day, a heavy fog settled over the field and caused significant visibility issues. Goalkeeper John Foster secured his second shutout of the season, making seven saves and facing 16 shots. Central was outshot 16-8, putting just three shots on frame. Nathan Casas had two on frame and Alejo Marcon had one.                                                                                                           

Central will return home against Coe College Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.

Central Women’s Soccer Team Falls Against Ranked Foe

Traveling to the No. 6 team in the country, the Central College women’s soccer lost team 4-1 at Wartburg College Wednesday night.

The Dutch (6-3-2, 0-1-1 American Rivers Conference) trailed 1-0 after the first half, but a flurry of second-half goals put the game away for Wartburg (11-0-1, 3-0-0 conference).

Amber Santana tallied her fifth goal of the season at the 86-minute mark.Abby Frey attempted five shots and put two on frame. Grace Coates also had two shots with one on frame. Goalkeeper Sheila Horstmann made five saves playing the full 90-minute contest.

Central hosts Coe College Saturday at 2 p.m. in Pella at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex.
