The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for south central Iowa from 1 to 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Frost and freeze conditions will kill sensitive
vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing. Typically, the first hard freeze (low temperature at or below 32 degrees) occurs between October 15th and 22nd, according to 30 year climate averages provided by the National Weather Service from 1991-2020.
