The Indianola City Council approved several changes to policies regarding Indianola Police Department leadership at their meeting Monday, including a change in the uniform policy and sick leave policy. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News what he found during his search for a new police chief, was there was a discrepancy in policies for department leadership and union officers.

“There is a different benefit package for our senior leadership and our frontline union officers. And the thing is, when we wanted to post the position for a new chief, we would have a trickle down effect with new lieutenants, new sergeants, and we didn’t want to have anything inhibit our current union officers from wanting to apply and getting into leadership. We wanted the best of our best to be comfortable to move into leadership positions, and not be held back because they would be treated differently.”
