After dropping a heartbreaker against West Marshall last week, the PCM football team turns their sights towards getting a home win over Chariton tonight.
The Mustangs sit third in Class 2A District 7 with a 2-1 record following the 13-12 loss last week, while Chariton is fourth in the district with a 1-2 record after beating Albia 29-13 last Friday. Depending on the results of Roland-Story and West Marshall, a PCM win tonight would set up a potentially big matchup with the Norseman next week for the second spot in the district. With a pair of big matchups to close out the season, the Mustangs will get a valuable player back for those games in Ayden Camu and PCM head coach Greg Bonnett said that Camu gives his squad a big boost in all facets of the game.
“He’s one of the strongest guys in the weight room, he’s one of the fastest guys on the field, really smart player and knows what he’s doing. He can play a variety of positions. So, he’s like a Swiss Army knife for us in that regard in terms of offense and defense scheme wise. But as a leader he just brings so much, I mean he is the epitome of what I want all PCM football players to be like. He’s great off the field, but he’s also the type of dude that when it comes time to play football and you get between the lines, you know it’s game on, and you better bring some physicality to play with him because his motor is just nonstop. So, if you’re going to play with him, you better be ready to go to the haul because he’s a dude.”
Tonight marks the 11th time PCM and Chariton have met on the gridiron, and the Mustangs enter the game with history on their side. PCM is 8-2 all-time against the Chargers and have won the last six meetings between the schools. 2001 was the last time Chariton bested the Mustangs, when they won 7-0.
Coverage from PCM High School begins tonight with the KRLS Radio Pregame show at 6:30 on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
