The Carlisle Wildcats ran for nearly 400 yards Friday night as the Indianola defense had no answer in a 42-21 loss at home as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indians never led in the contest, after giving up a first quarter rushing touchdown to fall behind 7-0, before tying it on a 40 yards Bennett Brueck to Drew Kingery connection. The Wildcats then scored again in the second quarter, which the Indians answered again on a Brueck to Kingery throwing score, this one for 85 yards. As time dwindled in the first half, the Indians got a big momentum shift as Carlisle fumbled the ball at the Indianola one yard line preventing a score, and the Indians began to drive down the field to take the lead before halftime, only to throw an interception and go down at the break 21-14.
The second half was all Wildcats, as they ate up clock with their rushing attack that earned 394 yards on the evening as they put the game away early in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Eric Kluver said all credit to Carlisle for executing their game plan perfectly, but Indianola made a lot of self-inflicted mistakes that cost them dearly.
“We shot ourselves in the foot. We made a lot of mistakes that were unforced tonight, and against a team like this you simply cannot do that and that’s why the result is what it is, a blowout.”
Kingery had 10 receptions for 226 yards and three scores to lead the squad. The Indians fall to 5-2 on the season, and will travel to Bondurant-Farrar on Friday.
