The Pella football team earned its first victory of the 2022 season win an emphatic 49-0 shutout at Oskaloosa last night in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Dutch jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead on a pair of touchdown runs by Kenson Fuller on their first two drives of the game, then made it 21-0 when Noah Parsons scooped up an Indian fumbled and raced 60 yards to the end zone.
Fuller scored again just before the end of the first half, then put the running clock into effect when he bolted 66 yards on the second play of the third quarter. Reed Beard and Beau Bush added touchdown runs later in the second half to cap the scoring.
Pella coach Jay McKinstrey was happy with the way his players executed.
“It’s hard when you haven’t won because you want to talk about winning a game. But we just tried to focus on getting better and executing well. We actually simplified our game plan this week and tried to put our guys in good positions to not make mistakes. I thought they did a great job tonight executing both offensively and defensively on what we wanted to do.”
Fuller carried the ball 15 times for 176 yards and the four touchdowns as the Dutch racked up 278 yards on the ground and 366 yards of total offense.
Pella is 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in district play. They’ll return home next Friday night to take on Clear Creek-Amana.
