The Simpson College Softball Team is celebrating their 50th anniversary next weekend, inviting fans, athletes, alumni, and members of the public to help honor those that started the program. Head coach Brent Matthias tells KNIA News Barb Overton, who still lives in Indianola, coached the very first team in the 1972-1973 school year, and he is looking forward for the opportunity to continue to promote the past athletes who have made the program what it is today, and thanking those in the community who have supported them.

The celebration begins on Friday, October 14th with an alumni game on the new turf softball field which is open to the public starting at 7:30, followed by a free fireworks show beginning at 9pm.

Saturday will feature a tailgate in the Hilman Parking Lot before the Homecoming football game starting at 10am, then at halftime all simpson softball players and coaches in attendance will be recognized with the original team. For more information, click below.
