The Spartans of Dubuque took advantage of two Simpson football turnovers in the first quarter Saturday en route to a 35-0 lead in the first quarter and an eventual 66-14 win as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Spartans took an interception back for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, then after forcing a punt scored on a five-play drive to take a 14-0 lead not four minutes into the game. But the damage was still yet to be done, as they scored on another pick-six, a two-play drive, and a one-play drive to go up 35-0 not ten minutes into the first quarter, effectively ending the game. The Storm scored a touchdown on a J Jensen to Reed Worth score in the second quarter, but the domination continued into the second half as the Spartans ran up the score as they earned 648 yards of total offense to the Storm 323.

Head coach Matt Jeter tells KNIA Sports you can’t start the way they started the game and expect it to be competitive, and right now they are looking for some positive growth going into the second half of the season.

The Storm fall to 0-5, and will host Loras for homecoming on Saturday.
