The Knoxville Fire Department is celebrating Fire Prevention Week this week. There will be an Open House at the Fire Department Wednesday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

A new program the department will be starting is an Explorer Program for those ages 10 to 20.

Trenton Bacus Battalion Chief tells KNIA/KRLS News about the program, “The Explorer Program, I think will be a great thing for Knoxville. What we’re trying to do is get young people involved with the fire service. With this program we’re hoping to get high school aged kids come in throughout high school for trainings and stuff and learn about the fire service.”

The Mercy One Helicopter will be on hand and there will be inflatables for the children. There will also be a chili feed at the Open House on Wednesday.
