Competing in the first ever West Central Conference volleyball tournament, the sixth-seeded Pleasantville volleyball squad swept both of their matches in the first two rounds of the tourney and broke the school record for wins in the process.
The Trojans first round match of the tournament was against the #11-seed Interstate 35 at 5 p.m. Pleasantville got off to a great start on the night, dominating the Roadrunners in the first set 25-12 before putting them away in the second set with a 25-17 set win. The win advanced the Trojans to the second round to take on the three-seed West Central Valley around 7 p.m. In their first contest against the Wildcats this season, Pleasantville pulled off the upset of the higher seed with another 2-0 sweep, taking the two sets 25-14, 25-20. Trojans head coach Joel Allman stated that his squad is currently playing their best volleyball of the season, and that the girls continue to improve each day.
The two wins put Pleasantville through to the Semifinals on Thursday, where they will play at and against the tournament’s top seed and Class 3A’s #1 ranked Des Moines Christian at 5 p.m.
