Pleasantville volleyball wrapped up the first ever West Central Conference Tournament at Des Moines Christian Thursday, while the cross country teams ran in the conference meet at Panorama.
Beginning the night in the semifinal round, the Trojans volleyball squad was swept 2-0 by the tournament’s top seed and Class 3A #1 ranked Des Moines Christian (25-12, 25-7). The loss sent the Trojans to the third-place match against Woodward-Granger. After falling 21-25 in the first set of the third-place match, Pleasantville bounced back to down the Hawks in the next two sets 25-21, 15-9. The win gave the Trojans their highest finish in the conference since joining during the 2018-2019 school year. Pleasantville head coach Joel Allman said it was fun to see his team battle back after a tough loss and see them come out on top against Woodward-Granger.
The Pleasantville boys cross country team brought home a ninth-place finish at the West Central Conference meet with a team score of 249 points, while the girls team came in 10th with a team score of 247. Kurt Kuhnen was the highest finisher for the Trojans’ boys coming in 29th (19:33.41), while Jenkin Fulmer was the next top finisher in 48th (21:21.61). Sophia Mason led the Pleasantville girls with a 43rd place finish (24:08.62), while Carly Gripp was the second Trojan to cross the line in 48th (25:11.06).

Pleasantville volleyball is next in action in the Class 2A Region 8 Quarterfinals at and against Pella Christian on Wednesday, while cross country next runs in the State Qualifier Meet at Central Decatur on Thursday.
