The Bluejays of Bondurant-Farrar and the cold weather defeated the Indianola football team Friday night 28-14 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indians traded blows with the Bluejays throughout the first half, falling behind 7-0 before tying the score on a Matt Edgington 16-yard scamper, then again 14-7 before again Edgington found paydirt on a 26-yard run to tie the score at 14 going into halftime.
The third quarter was a defensive struggle for both teams, until with under two minutes to go before the field flipped the Bluejays scored to go ahead 21-14 going into the final 12 minutes. After the Indianola offense again failed to move the ball, the defense was pushed to the red zone before a sack and a penalty forced a punt to give the ball back down just the seven points, but a dropped punt return was recovered in the endzone for a touchdown and that would shut the door.
Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the effort was great, the Indians just need to be much more consistent in order to win against good teams.
“We just didn’t have enough consistency, we didn’t make enough plays, we didn’t protect well enough, we didn’t throw enough good balls to catch, and we didn’t catch balls when we needed to. So there was plenty to go around, we did this to ourselves. We have to make plays. I like our football team, I like our guys, we just have to go make plays.”
The Indians fall to 5-3 on the season and 2-2 in district play, and will need to win their season finale at Boone to make the postseason.
