A school-record performance by Caroline McMartin was among a host of career bests by the Central women’s cross country team at the Augustana Interregional Invitational. The Dutch finished 11th in the meet, with McMartin finishing with a school record time of 21:50 to finish in 20th place in the meet. Her time topped Beth Cunningham’s 2004 school mark of 21:53 set in nearby Davenport. Personal-best times poured in for the Dutch men’s cross country team, but none were bigger than a school-record performance by Noah Jorgenson. Jorgenson came in 27th with a time of 24:27.4, breaking the 39-year-old 8,000-meter record of 24:33 set by Pete Anderson. Central finished 11th overall. In a game that drew uncomfortably close, free safety Reece Miller’s three interceptions lifted Central football past Buena Vista University in a 52-27 victory. The Dutch women’s soccer team took #15 Loras College into halftime in a one-goal game before falling 3-0, while the men’s soccer team was unable to convert early scoring opportunities in a 3-0 loss at Loras. Playing her final matches as a Central women’s tennis player, Ashlynn Brant won the C-Flight singles title at the American Rivers Conference individual championships. The Central volleyball team needed just six sets to take quick victories against both Westminster College (Mo.) and Webster University (Mo.) Saturday afternoon. The Dutch (8-11) swept the Gorloks 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 and the Blue Jays 25-19, 25-20, 25-24. For the second year in a row, the Central women’s triathlon team earned its way to the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships, finishing third at the West Regional Qualifier.
