The Indianola Hope Foundation, a group of former teachers dedicated to building a stronger community by touching the lives of children in the Indianola school district, is available to local families for those in need. Volunteers Connee Larsen and Lynn Cory tell KNIA News the Indianola Hope Foundation is non-profit there to help families with the everyday costs of living such as rent, utilities, car repairs, and clothing among many others, and in order to allow students the best chance at obtaining a good education, you can’t have them worrying about things out of their control.
“Early in our education training, we all learned about Maslow’s Theory, how the basic needs of humans have to be met before they can do any learning. And I think that is the basis for the Hope Foundation, we need to meet the basic needs of students so they can be good learners in school.”
“If they don’t know if the heat is going to be on when they get home, or if they don’t know if they are going to be able to get to school because their car is broken down, then they aren’t thinking about school. I think for all of us in the Indianola HOpe Foundation, our passion is the kids in the community, and doing whatever we can to make their home situation good enough so they can concentrate on school. Worry about kid things, and not adult things.”
