The Indianola City Council asked for an amended city ordinance regarding the use of fireworks within city limits at their meeting Monday, after a discussion regarding a full ban on fireworks was not agreed upon by council.
City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the council wants to be as fair as they can to all parties, weighing the needs of those in the community affected by fireworks such as veterans with PTSD or those who have pets who react negatively to fireworks, balanced with personal freedoms and those who want to celebrate the 4th of July.
Reeves said an amended ordinance will come before the council and limit the use of fireworks to July 3rd and 4th, in addition to New Year’s Eve.
