knoxville-city-council-2

The city council is looking into ways of making the streets safer for people driving on the roads in golf carts or UTV’s (utility trail vehicles). UTV’s are allowed on highways and they can drive at night. The city earlier this summer amended city codes to reflect what is allowed at the state level.

There was a proposed discussion from Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller in regards to passenger regulations on the city streets. The first consideration was passed by the council for  amending chapter six, regarding the use of golf carts and UTVs on city streets. In regards to passengers no person may ride on a golf cart or UTV on any portion not designed to carry passengers. No person may stand on or ride in the cargo area of a golf cart or UTV while it is in motion. Each person riding must be in their own seat. No more than three people may ride on a bench seat. If seatbelts are available they must be used by all occupants. No person may ride on the lap of another.

Chief Fuller will be looking into possible solutions for passenger regulations at the next council meeting to consider.
