indianola-8

The Indianola football team upset Bondurant-Farrar on the road Friday night 35-13 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA, and now stands as just one of eight teams left in class 4A.
The Indians struck first after running only three plays on offense the entire first quarter, but went ahead 7-0 on a Matt Edgington two-yard score, then after a fumble recovery went ahead 14-0 after Edgington found the endzone again in the quarter. The Bluejays drove down to try and put points on the board before halftime, but their field goal attempt was low and knocked up into the air, and picked up by Josh Eilers who ran it 85 yards for a score as the Indians lead 21-0 at the halftime break.

Indianola scored on a Bennett Brueck to Will Shivers 27-yard score to begin the second half to lead 28-0, but Bondurant-Farrar was not done yet. The Bluejays scored in the third to cut the lead down to 28-7, and again early in the fourth to get it to 28-13, but an Indianola interception gave the offense the ball back and Edgington scored for the third time, this time from 40-yards out, to seal the win.

Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports he has been waiting for this type of game from the Indians all season long.

“I like our chances against anyone, and I’ve said it all season long. It was so refreshing to see our guys put it all together in all phases of the game. The credit should go to our guys for continuing to go to work after being 6-3. Our goal is to go to the dome, and that we still have that opportunity in front of us with a steep challenge. Third team in school history to go to the quarterfinal round, so that is pretty special.”

Edgington rushed for 103 yards and three scores, while Brueck threw for 201 yards and a touchdown. The Indians advance to the quarterfinals where they will go on the road to #1 Cedar Rapids Xavier.
