It was billed as a heavyweight title fight, and it lived up to its billing as Fremont-Mills prevailed over Southeast Warren Friday night in the eight-man playoffs 30-28. After a scoreless first quarter, the Warhawks got on the board with a Landon Harvey two yard touchdown run to make it 6-0. The Knights would respond a couple of minutes later with a score of their own and two point conversion to take the lead 8-6. Back came Southeast Warren as Caden Crow streaked 63 yards to give Southeast Warren a 12-8 lead, but the Knights seemingly took over scoring the next 22 points in the latter half of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. However Southeast Warren would not give in as the Warhawks scored on a Trey Fisher 62 yard run in the 3rd quarter and Dylan Ruggles scored on a two yard pass from Harvey, but the Warhawks could not get over the hump and was stopped on 4th down on back-to-back possessions in the last three minutes of the game. Coach Shane Rowlands told KNIA sports that was what it came down to, Fremont-Mills making defensive stops when it had to.

Rowland: “They just made a couple more ebig plays when they had two. Hats off to them and I’m proud of our kids for not giving up, and made some plays of their own. Hats off to Fremont-Mills they made the plays when they had to.”

Southeast Warren was led on the ground by Fisher with 159 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. Landon Harvey was 11/20 through the air for 103 yards and a score, Ruggles had 48 yards on three receptions and a touchdown. Southeast Warren finishes the season at 9-2.
