Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian has a very tough job when it comes time to battle the winter weather in the county.

Christian shared some of the thoughts he uses in making the difficult call of when to send his crew out on the roads, “In general, if the wind reduces visibility we may make the call to hold off sending anyone out. Sometimes we do hold off on the motor graders also. Out on the gravel they can’t see a thing when it is blowing and drifting. So, sometimes we have to wait until the wind lays down. It’s the same for the paved roads as well. We want our employees to be safe.”

Christian noted that anytime they go out for snow events, even minor ones, when travel is not advised he will make sure KNIA/KRLS is contacted so our listeners will be informed.
