The Simpson men’s and women’s soccer squads advanced to the American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals after their wins Saturday, the men defeating Dubuque 4-1 and the women Central 2-1.

The #3 seeded Storm women had Cassie Nash score two goals in the first seven minutes as they flew right out to a 2-0 advantage, but Central would score quickly to make it 2-1 going into halftime. Defense dominated the final 40 minutes, and Storm keeper Lani Mears saved a penalty kick that would have tied the score in the second half as Simpson held on to advance. The Storm will travel to #2 seed Wartburg tomorrow.

The #3 seed Storm men played solid defense throughout their contest, but it took a half for the offense to find a rhythm as neither team found the back of the net in the first half. The second half was all offense however, as Mateaus Lewis, Baraka Ellie, Roderick Orellana, and Andrew Russell all scored as the Storm cruised to a win. Simpson will go on the road to face #2 seeded Luther tomorrow.
