Cal Wyman, Knoxville Fire Chief tells KNIA/KRLS NEWS  both smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are recommended in your home. A few tips are to have them on each floor of the house and one outside the sleeping areas or in the sleeping area.

Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News it’s the time of year to check and make sure they work, “The biggest thing is to make sure they are within date and have good batteries. Smoke alarms have a life expectancy of about 10 years. If it is close to 10 years, it is time to replace them. With Daylight Savings Time coming it has always been our deal to replace the batteries.”

Check to make sure the batteries are good in both the smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. When it comes to the carbon monoxide detectors the ones that have a digital readout are recommended; they can help alert you to high or low levels and they can indicate whether the batteries are low.
