Several public hearings were back on the agenda for the Pella City Council at their regular meeting this evening. Resolutions were approved for a contract for extending a Pella Fiber Transport Network line to Indianola Municipal Utilities with Kramer Service Group for $1.84 million — approximately $500,000 less than the engineer’s estimate, and will be slated for completion by October 2023. The city is splitting the cost with IMU.

The council also approved an amendment to an urban renewal plan for Webster Park to facilitate additional housing and blight remediation, as well as a development agreement with Pella Main Street Market, LLC to discuss minimum tax assessments and operating hours for the new store, with the goal for completion by the end of this year.

The council moved again to table a citation for possible legal action against the owners of 813.5 Washington Street for property abatement of the building destroyed in a fire earlier this year. The owners plan to start demolition in December.

Additionally, a public hearing was scheduled to approve bids for Bos Landen Conference center repairs, and ordinances were adopted for the Prairie Ridge and Southwest Urban Renewal plans. During policy and planning, the council received an update about the sidewalk inspection program.
