In addition to selecting candidates to serve at the local, statewide, and national level, Warren County voters will decide on whether the Warren County Board of Supervisors will grow from three to five members that will take place beginning in 2025. Board Chair Aaron DeKock tells KNIA News as Warren County has grown, he wants to put it out to the voters to decide how they want their board to represent them.

“So on the November 8th, 2022 general election the voters of Warren County will be reading, and I quote “Shall the citizens representation by members of the Warren County Board of Supervisors be increased from three to five members, effective January 1, 2025.” So that will be on the ballot for voters to make a decision in November.””
The board is currently three members, which dictates that any two members of the board holding a discussion is a quorum of the board, and would violate open meetings laws if not held at a scheduled meeting or work session with an agenda provided 24-hours in advance.

Arguments for expansion include board members able to discuss issues with other members outside of meetings, and more localized representation. Arguments against expansion include the costs incurred to the county for the board expansion, and a lack of rural representation on the board if it is split between the city population areas among others.
