Central College sophomore Joe Brown (Norwalk) was selected to the American Rivers All-Conference men’s soccer team, while a pair of athletes were named honorable mentions in their respective sports.

Amanda Smith (Tipton), a senior setter on the Central College volleyball team, was an honorable mention on the American Rivers All-Conference volleyball team, while goalkeeper John Foster (junior, Lee’s Summit, Mo., North HS) received honorable mention for the third time on the All-Conference men’s soccer team.

Brown played all over the field for Central, starting the season as a defender and finishing it as a forward. He scored three conference goals, including scoring a pair against Coe College alongside an assist. He also had a goal and an assist against Buena Vista University.

In eight conference matches, Smith had 117 assists and eight service aces. She had 43 kills on 152 attempts for a .230 hitting percentage. She registered double-doubles in three leagues matches: 19 assists and 10 kills vs. Wartburg on October 7, 18 assists and 16 digs vs Coe on October 8 and 16 assists and 10 digs vs. Simpson on October 26.

Foster was 2-5-1 between the pipes for the Dutch in league play, recording 40 saves and helping shutout three opponents. He went the distance as Central took a point in a 0-0 draw at Wartburg College. He faced a total of 96 shots in the eight conference contests.

The Dutch volleyball team went 1-7 in conference, placing eighth, and were 10-15 overall on the season. Central men’s soccer finished the season with a 3-11-2 overall record and 2-5-1 record in the conference.
